What do you mean by Integration?
During many years of working with tanneries, we have seen a great
variety of EDP systems installed in different environments. Currently
most tanneries deploy a mix of standard software and custom-tailored
components to match their specific requirements. Unfortunately,
this approach entails extraordinarily high maintenance cost. The
customized part needs to be adapted or redeveloped whenever the
standard components are updated.
What are the other options?
The alternative is to use customized software only where it is
absolutely necessary and to skip major software updates for the
sake of compatibility, which results in a patchy, outmoded EDP system
in due course.
What are the dangers of this approach?
There are numerous incompatible control units and measuring systems
on the market. These systems can only be integrated with a significant
development effort. Despite the diversity of systems being used,
we have never found a truly integrated solution that automates all
aspects of production and management.
What is normally used?
In practice, many tanneries adapt operations to the principles
of their software in order to make things work. Of course, it should
be the other way round. The software should be able to adapt to
the operations principles of the plant.
What can you offer?
Incotec has developed a new, comprehensive software system - purpose-built
for tanneries. Incotec wants to enable tanneries to integrate their
automation systems, measurement apparatuses, monitoring systems,
PCs, and management EDP system into an enterprise-spanning network:
the computer integrated tannery.
